Don Mann: Focusing on my Craft

Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004 - 1:38 a.m.

It's interesting how a single memory can flash so vividly into one's mind.

I've been sitting here at my computer thinking back on as many beautiful scenes and awesome sights I've seen, how I wished that I'd taken a picture to keep them even fresher. My mind floats from one image to another, like some kind of bizarre nostalgic montage glittering before my mind's eye.

I see beautiful sunlit landscapes, peaceful moonlight paths in the forest, sentimental and intimate moments gazing into someone's eyes...and it makes me wonder when winter will be over, when the grey pall will lift from the skies and once again reveal that perfect cloudless day to me, drifting down some familiar road or walking down some special path in the woods. There is a heaviness in my heart, but it isn't sadness, it feels more like a realization of something dawning on me, like opening your eyes just in time to see the sun rising and streams of light rays moving gently across your wall. It reminds me of the warm glow that light brings to even the most arbitrary of objects.

I realize how little this probably means to anyone else out there, how insignificant these words of this infinitely small text may be to someone else, but I urge you to take a moment sometime and reflect on those moments that made you hold your breath, moments that seemed to make everything else in your life completely meaningless.

Sometimes I get to feeling like I've been locked up in some kind of stranglehold, like being trapped in a sauna gasping for air, and when I think back on those incredible visions it's like a breath of fresh air.

I'm going to go fall asleep now, and I hope my dreams can carry me even farther into this surreal state my mind is in.
