Don Mann: Focusing on my Craft Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004 - 5:03 p.m. Packaged for mass consumption mechanically processed interruptions I'd make you something to remind you of me instead I'll pick you up something on my next shopping spree ~~ The world's gotten smaller in a hurry Everyone runs, flies or scurries The technology we embraced to bring together our hearts Won't return the embrace when we've fallen apart ~~ The world looks so sensational Sometimes even downright inspirational I view the globe's events through a pane of glass The commercials made me forget all the questions I meant to ask ~~ All around me I see stone and metal Now that the smoke and dust have settled A fine, cold prison we built with our good intentions We pave the path to suffering with each new invention ~~ I think back to when I was just a child Accepting everything I was given with a smile Our parents pressed into our palms the shiny token for damnation Never telling us which slot to put it in, expecting our appreciation ~~ I know what I've done with all I've learned I know what I'll do when it comes to my turn I'll throw myself into the gears and like a martyr be ground I'll gladly accept my choice of destruction without a sound |
