Don Mann: Focusing on my Craft

Monday, May. 10, 2004 - 10:07 p.m.

two weeks overdue. I have everything I need to actively work on my webdiary. Physically, perhaps. However, the concept of abstract thinking or even leisurely probing into the existential aspects of everyday living continues to elude me, even after all of this time. Is keeping this webdiary supposed to be something I do only when I have absolutely too much damn free time on my hands? Perhaps, and for the next hour or so, I have just that.

Let's see, some important events which have unfolded in the past two weeks...

I guess I've finally come out of the closet of introversion and seclusion. I've revealed to all here at the college my outrageous easy-going moron side, a side which usually takes me a very long time to reveal. i sat out on the back area of the dormitory with my twelve-string, hamming it up Jack Black style writing random songs about people as they casually came out to smoke a cigarette or play volleyball in the oppressive late-spring sun. I was aided at first by my friend Jeremy, then soon enough others came forward, bringing out instruments like a miniature six-string and a harmonica, a pair of sticks which served as drumsticks for our percussion section. Yes, it was an excellent day for my social status, as I met several cool pricks who I'll probably end up spending more time with in the future.

Let's see, what kind of cool people did I meet...there was this Kyle-Gass sized man named Aaron who jammed out like a pro on harmonica, and who had some meager skills on his miniature six-string. Then there was Judith, an aspiring guitarist like myself who may very well be my equal or superior on her shimmering sticker-covered blue acoustic. Then there were several who joined in on the random lyrics, from rap kids to emo-fiends, and the sun was dead and gone by the time we finally retired for the evening, just as we had begun it; just Jeremy and I on the deck again, everyone else scared off either by the biting cold or the biting mosquitos.

Academically there is definitely room for me to improve. I have some work that I'll need to turn in late for two of my classes, but as far as my other two go I'm doing just fine. I think that's enough updating the world on my current standings for now, more to come as I find more time to myself.
